Up to now, a federal steroids investigation of an online pharmacy in Mobile has focused on doctors writing prescriptions for customers wanting to build body mass. But documents filed last week in U.S. District Court in Mobile suggest another motivation for the steroids: an attempt to slow the effects of aging.

Dr. Pamela Pyle, a Myrtle Beach, S.C., physician who worked out a plea bargain with Mobile-based prosecutors last week, stated in a court document that she began writing prescriptions for anabolic steroids a year after becoming involved with self-professed anti-aging expert James Abernathy in early 2005. Phil Heath won the overall titles at both the NPC Junior Nationals and the NPC USAs. His impressive conditioning at those shows led some observers to crown him as a Mr. Olympia in the future. In five professional contests, Heath has notched three wins - at the New York Pro and Colorado Pro in 2006 and the Ironman Pro in February of this year - and has never failed to finish in the top five.
